Why I Choose Ergo Round Brushes

I use several Ergo round brushes behind the chair because each one has a purpose. My choice isn't based on which one is "best." It's based on the hair sitting in front of me and the result we're trying to achieve.
While I reach for different barrel sizes depending on your hair length, density, and desired style, there's one brush I find myself using more than any other:
The Ergo Super Gentle Round Brush.
Don't let the name fool you.
Gentle doesn't mean ineffective.
It simply means the brush is designed to be kinder to the hair while still giving me the control and tension I need to create a beautiful blowout.
For guests with fine hair, fragile hair, heavily highlighted hair, or hair that's been through a lot over the years, that gentler approach can make a real difference.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that more tension creates a better blowout.
In reality, my goal is to create beautiful hair while putting the least amount of stress on the hair fiber.
One of the things I love most about the Super Gentle brush is that I can still create incredible volume, bounce, and smoothness without feeling like I'm fighting the hair.
In fact, I even reach for it on some naturally curly guests because it creates one of my favorite finishes—a soft, bouncy, voluminous blowout while still being incredibly gentle during the process.
That's a win in my book.
Why Ceramic Matters
Not all round brushes are created equal.
One feature I always look for is a quality ceramic barrel.
Ceramic helps distribute heat more evenly across the brush, creating a smoother blowout while reducing hot spots that can expose sections of hair to unnecessary heat.
Many professional ceramic brushes also incorporate ionic technology to help reduce static, smooth the hair cuticle, and enhance shine during styling.
To me, the goal isn't chasing the hottest tool on the market.
The goal is creating beautiful results while protecting the health of your hair.
Technique Matters More Than Expensive Tools
Even the best brush can't make up for poor technique.
A few simple changes can make a huge difference in both your results and the health of your hair.
Work in clean, manageable sections.
Start detangling at the ends and work your way up.
Let the brush do the work instead of pulling harder.
Use the lowest effective heat setting that achieves your desired result.
Be patient.
One Blow-Drying Tip That Changes Everything
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make at home is resting the nozzle of the blow dryer directly against the round brush.
It seems like it would dry the hair faster, but it actually concentrates too much heat in one small area while limiting airflow through the rest of the section.
Instead, keep your blow dryer a few inches away from the brush and direct the airflow down the hair shaft as you move through the section.
Giving the airflow room to circulate around the entire section allows the hair to dry more evenly, creates a smoother finish, reduces frizz, and often shortens your drying time—all while exposing your hair to less concentrated heat.
Remember...
The goal isn't to use more heat.
The goal is to use better technique.
Protecting Your Hair Is Always the Goal
Everything I recommend—from your shampoo and conditioner to your brushes and styling tools—comes back to one simple philosophy.
I'm not just thinking about how your hair looks today.
I'm thinking about how healthy it will be six months from now.
Every choice you make between appointments either protects your hair or slowly works against it.
When we choose better tools, better habits, and the right products for your unique hair, those small decisions add up to healthier, shinier, stronger hair over time.

Healthy hair doesn't happen by accident. It happens with the right plan.

These are the brushes I personally trust and use behind the chair because they help me create beautiful results while protecting the integrity of the hair.
Ergo Super Gentle Round Brush – My favorite for fine, fragile, highlighted, and compromised hair. It creates beautiful volume, bounce, and smoothness while putting less tension on the hair during the blowout. I even love using it on some naturally curly guests when I'm creating a soft, voluminous blowout.
Ergo Ceramic Round Brushes – I use different barrel sizes depending on your hair length, density, and the style we're creating. The ceramic barrel helps distribute heat evenly for a smoother blowout without relying on excessive heat.
Olivia Garden Detangling Brush – The brush I reach for when detangling wet hair. It's flexible, gentle, and helps minimize unnecessary pulling and breakage when your hair is at its most vulnerable.
Have a Hair Question?
One of my favorite parts of being a hairstylist is helping women better understand their hair. If you've ever caught yourself wondering, "Why does my hair do that?" or "What's the best way to care for my hair?"—you're probably not the only one.
If there's a topic you'd love to see me cover in a future blog post, I'd love to hear from you! Send me a message or bring your questions to your next appointment. Chances are, your question might inspire the next article.
Beautiful hair shouldn't feel complicated. 💙
